Housing First looks past motel fund

Housing First says New Zealand’s response to COVID-19 should serve as a foundation for long term change.
Speaking at the organisation’s annual hui, spokesperson Tracey Moore said this year Housing First Auckland, in partnership with the government, sheltered around 1000 people in motels during lockdown periods and provided access to support services.
Post-lockdown it was still supporting 536 people in motels as at the end of September.
She says the $100 million fund for putting the homeless in motels is due to end next April, and Housing First is keen that housing providers and government build on work already done to avoid seeing another wave of homelessness.
