Experience shines in Waiata Awards
Former winners Troy Kingi, Israel Starr and Seth Haapu get a chance for a repeat play at this year’s National Waiata Māori Music Awards.
Along with newcomer Lion Rezz they’re finalists in the best Māori male solo artist category.
Familiar voices also dominate the women’s section, which is between 2008 winner Taisha Tari, Ria Hall, who has won a best video award, and La Coco who performed as a guest artist at the 2019 awards.
The best group finalists are L.A.B, Sons of Zion and Te Nūtube.
Organisers have scrapped the awards gala in Hastings because of COVID-19 limits, and the winners will be revealed at an online event on October 9 streamed via YouTube and Facebook.
