New Zealand First’s candidate for Northland says the election is going to be fought who has a better vision for jobs.
Shane Jones has been given the task of trying to wrest the seat back from National’s Matt King and guarantee his party a place in the next parliament.
As Regional Economic Development Minister he has been responsible for spending hundreds of millions of dollars in the region to creating infrastructure and address years of neglect.
But he says it’s hard to run on your record because voters want to see the next trick.
With the medical consequences of COVID-19 now under control, they also want to know how the economic contagion will be managed.
“Nothing eclipses in my view the importance of jobs, enabling firms to maintain the employees they have and to give them the confidence to invest and generate more jobs going forward. That is a huge challenge for whoever is the member for Tai Tokerau, for the north,” Mr Jones says.
