Iwi chairs want child poverty role

The Iwi Chairs Forum says the latest child poverty figures show why Māori must be given more say in finding solutions to lift tamariki out of material hardship.
Statistics New Zealand found almost one in four Māori children are living in poverty, compared to around one in 10 pākehā children.
Ngāti Whātua chair Dame Rangimarie Naida Glavish says it shows current solutions are not working.
She says better outcomes can be achieved if iwi are involved in co-designing and creating solutions, not just implementing programmes.
