A Taranaki Whānui group opposing the Port Nicholson Block Settlement Trust’s handing of its investment in Shelly Bay has vowed to continue fighting the development.
Independent commissioners have granted resource consent for the $500 million plan by developer Ian Cassels and the trust to transform a former Air Force Facility on the edge of the Miramar Peninsula into homes, offices and other facilities.
The trust has sold down its land holdings to Mr Cassels' The Wellington Company to free up cash for other projects, but still retains a stake in the development.
Mau Whenua says it will fight to get the land back into iwi ownership.
It says as kaitiaki, Taranaki Whānui are responsible for the protection and sustainable use of the whenua.
