Tūwharetoa taps former trustee as new CEO
Mr Heremaia, who is of Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Ngāti Tarawhai and Ngāti Pikiao descent was until recently the general manager of iwi fisheries organisation Te Kotahitanga o Te Arawa and is a previous trust board trustee.
Chair John Bishara says as an active member of the iwi he is well placed to lead the board at a critical time in its development.
Mr Heremaia has an MBA from Massey University and a Masters in Law with honours from the University of Auckland.
He has worked in property law, as general counsel for Te Ohu Kaimoana, and in commercial law in London.
He replaces Topia Rameka, who is the new deputy chief executive Māori with the Department of Corrections.
