Boards combine efforts to restart Tīpene
The group representing old boys from St Stephen's Māori boarding school, Ngā Mano o Tīpene, has established a joint working party with the St Stephens and Victoria Schools Trust Board.
Chairs Joe Harawira and Bernard Te Paa says up to now the two bodies have worked independently towards the same broad objective of reopening a school at the Bombay site to educate young Māori men.
They have not always agreed on how this might be undertaken, but recent talks and external advice has brought them together.
They're now looking at a new school model based on principles of academic excellence, sporting endeavour, and cultural development.
The school would be underpinned by strong tikanga and Anglican values.
