Taitokerau MP and Tourism Minister Kelvin Davis says National's Paul Goldsmith needs to show where the jobs are from John Key's cycle trails before he throws stones at Shane Jones and the provincial growth fund.
Mr Goldsmith says based on replies to written questions he can count only 54 actual jobs created – and double that in bureaucrats to run the scheme.
Mr Davis says initiatives like the $100 million for Māori land development from the PGF will take time to ramp up.
"Of course Paul Goldsmith is going to do what Opposition MPs do but they have to realise John Key's 3000 jobs did not materialise overnight, if they have actually materialised entirely at all, but we are laying the foundations and Shane is doing a fantastic job," he says.
Mr Davis is urging Māori to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the extra funding to develop their whenua.
