The Crown has told Ngāti Maniapoto it won’t be able to complete its settlement this year.

Maniapoto Māori Trust Board chair Tiwha Bell says the deed of settlement was due to be completed in December, but more work is needed on some substantive issues.

He expects it can be initialed in the first quarter of 2019.

The King Country iwi signed its agreement in principle in August 2017.
