Maori employment numbers peak
The Maori employment rate is now the highest on record, despite a slight increase in the overall employment rate.
Statistics New Zealand says the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 4.5 percent in the June 2018 quarter, up from 4.4 percent last quarter.
That follows five consecutive falls which took the unemployment rate to a none year low.
The employment rate for Maori was 64.6 percent, up from 60.3 percent last year.
The overall the employment rate was 67.7 percent, which has remained unchanged for three consecutive quarters.
Labour market and household statistics senior manager Jason Attewell says since last year there has been an increase of 22,000 people working in healthcare and social assistance and almost 24,000 people working in professional, scientific, technical, administrative, and support services.
