Ngapuhi unity drives kapa haka performance

That's how Te Matatini Te Tai Tokerau rohe delegate Pauline Hopa felt after the weekend's kapa haka regionals.
Muriwhenua took the top spot in the nine-team competition, with two Whangarei teams, Hatea and Te Puu Ao, making up the list for Te Matatini in Poneke next year.
Ms Hopa says many of the compositions showed how kapa haka is a great way to share ideas and opinions.
"There was one, Waerenga te Kaha, thinking about our situation in Ngapuhi with Tuhoronuku and with our Kotahitanga and that we have got to get ourselves together. That has been a constant cry but they are proposing thoughts and people hear those and ponder them. It's a great medium for that," she says..
Ms Hopa says the standard of performance was improved on previous years.
