Bot puts reo in everyday conversation

The designer of a te reo Maori chat bot hopes it will encourage people to use the language in everyday settings.
ReoBot is an artificial intelligence tool that builds on capability within Facebook Messenger.
Jason Lovell, who created the tool with workmate Jonnie Cain, says it includes a series on questions and answers used in everyday interactions like ordering coffee.
"The intent is to encourage te reo Maori to be front of mind so when you go into situaitions like you may be heading into work or heading into school or wherever, it gives you a refresh and encourages you to use the te reo Maori you may know in an everyday context," he says.
ReoBot is not a teaching App nor a translation service, but it can provide teachers with a tool to help their students with conversational Maori, especially young kids who have grown up with technology and mobile phones.
