Minister works on bruised Ngapuhi relations

Acting Prime Minister Kelvin Davis has welcomed a weekend meeting which brought the leaders of the two main Ngapuhi factions together in the offices of the Minister of Treaty Negotiations.
The talks followed separate hui Andrew Little held at Waitangi last month held with Tuhoronuku's Hone Sadler and Sonny Tau and Te Kotahitanga co-chairs Pita Tipene and Rudy Taylor.
They have committed to reporting back to their consiututents about what steps might be taken to get settlement talks back on track after a two year break while questions of mandate were being relitigated.
As a a Ngapuhi member he can't get directly involved, but he's pleased Mr Little is putting in the effort.
"He knows the value, the importance of relationships, not just rushing in to things and trying to get a result straight away. We needto make sure the relationships that may have been bruised and damaged over the years are coming together so I encourage him to keep doing what he is doing. There are very positive signs," Mr Davis says.
