Brash ignoring treaty evidence
Hobson‘s Pledge founder Don Brash has been called out by a fellow economist for promoting a racist view of the Treaty of Waitangi.
Opportunities Party head Gareth Morgan says the former Reserve Bank governor turned politician is academically trained, so he must know that what he saying is false.
He says the treaty is not just the English and Maori documents signed in 1840 but the principles that have been identified by the Waitangi Tribunal since it was established by an act of parliament in 1975.
Dr Morgan says he felt the question needed to be asked why Dr Brash chooses to behave as if the English language version was the only treaty and why he is so sensitive about race.
"Why is this man who is academically trained, why in this particular case does he choose to deny 90 percent of the evidence? I mean that’s what you expect from a moron. The only reason I can come up with that he would choose to deny 90 percent of what the treaty actually comprises is that he is fundamentally prejudiced," he says.
