Auckland secondary schools will find out tomorrow who are best singers, musicians and dancers in the region.
It’s the annual Auckland Council Stand Up Stand Out competition at the Vodafone Events Centre in Manukau from 1pm.
From the initial 700 plus contestants, judges have identified the top five in each of five categories – bands, solo instrumentals, solo vocals, group vocals and dance.
Event director Gene Rivers says the standard has been getting better each year.
"These kids never cease to amaze. Every year we think 'This has got as good as it can get. How good can secondary musicians get?' But they just keep getting better, which is testament to the environment they are coming up in and their natural talent as well," he says.
As well as the kudos, the winners of each section will be mentored by artists in their field.
