Regional development hope for Maori Party
Hauraki Waikato candidate Rahui Papa says the Maori Party is looking at the long term picture for Maori … including reversing the urbanisation that led to most Maori living in cities.
Mr Papa says while most parties are carrot dangling for votes with short term fixes, the Maori Party is looking further ahead with solutions like iwirail and the revival of the regions.
"People will be able to get out of the big metropolises back to the region because the regions are going to be the place it is affordable for people to live and the alternative is to come back to the regions, grow the regions, make sure the regions are sustainable with employment and financial considerations," he says.
Mr Papa says tourism is one area where there can be jobs created, particularly in cultural tourism.
