Maori TV leading in local content

Maori Television has topped the local content stakes, with 86 percent of its content being produce in-house or by New Zealand producers.
That compares with 40 percent at TVNZ1 and 39 percent at TV3, according to the 2016 New Zealand on Air local content survey.
Maori TV broadcast 990 hours of local content during prime time broadcast hours of 6pm to 10pm last year, compared to 734 hours for TVNZ1 and 684 hours for Three.
Chief executive Paora Maxwell says that’s 200 hours less than 2015 because the survey doesn’t count international programmes, including children’s programmes reversioned in te reo Maori.
He says New Zealanders increasingly want to watch programmes that reflect their lives and who they are.
