Tainui to build second airport hotel

Tainui Group Holdings and Auckland Airport have signed a 50:50 partnership to build a second hotel next four star Novotel Hotel at the international terminal.
The new 250-room hotel will be operated by Novotel’s owner Accor under its five star Pullman brand.
Auckland Airport general manager Mark Thomson says there is unprecedented demand for hotel accommodation in Auckland.
As part of the deal the airport has increased it stake in the Novotel to 50 percent.
Tainui Group Holdings chief executive Chris Joblin says the agreement reflects the strength of the relationship that has been established between the companies.
He says the hotel building will carry the name ‘Te Arikinui’, which is the chiefly title that the late Maori queen Te Atairangikaahu chose at the time of her coronation.
