Peters no Uncle Tom says Harawira
Mana leader Hone Harawira is standing up for New Zealand First’s Winston Peters over an attack by Opportunities Party founder Gareth Morgan.
The economist turned politician used his speech at Ratana Pa this week to call on Maori to reject Mr Peters because of what he called his anti-Treaty stuff.
Mr Harawira says while he liked a lot of what Mr Morgan had to say, he should not have called Mr Peters an Uncle Tom.
"Like him or not like him, Winston has his history in Maori political endeavour. He has a very strong history in Maori land retention. He’s got a lot of things going for him. He’s got a lot of things going against him as well, but if I would hesitate to use that phrase against him in our own world, I certainly don’t want to hear it coming from people like Gareth Morgan," he says.
