Sir Wira added to repatriation inquiry
Veterans’ Affairs Minister Craig Foss has called in reinforcements for the inquiry on whether the bodies of New Zealand servicemen killed in Malaysia and Vietnam should be repatriated.
Retired army Lieutenant Colonel and former Te Puni Kokiri head Sir Wira Gardiner, and former Auditor-General Kevin Brady have been added to the Veterans’ Advisory Board for the duration of the investigation.
Mr Foss says they bring a wealth of public sector and governance experience.
He also appointed four people to the panel that provides advice on veterans’ health issues and regulations and allocates funds from the Veterans’ Medical Research Trust Fund.
They include Professor Te Kani Kingi, an expert in Maori mental health, Clive Banks, a senior clinical psychologist who has considerable experience in mainstream and Maori health research, and Nga Pae o te Maramatanga executive director Daniel Patrick.
