Personally I don't care about what consenting adults do. I enjoy living in a liberal society where you are free to do what you like within the law. If Aaron Smith became intimate with some consenting person in a toilet, quite frankly it's none of my our your business.

I don't look to rugby players for ethical or moral guidance.

As long as its consensual, not my place to judge.

But you wouldn't have seen that mentality played out by the mainstream media last week. Every news outlet was 4 to 5 stories deep from every possible angle. The father of the girlfriend was interviewed, the Prime Minister was interviewed, Aaron Smith was interviewed (and cried), the toilet itself was interviewed.

This farcical hysteria would have been cringe worthy and embarrassing enough, but the real damage was how this All Black sex romp in a toilet managed to eclipse some incredibly important events last week.

Green Party MP and Human Rights Activist Marama Davidson was kidnapped by Israeli forces in International waters trying to break a blockade of Gaza which has been under brutal occupation by an Apartheid Israel for decades now.

That an All Black getting frisky in a toilet can lead as a news story over one of our own MPs being kidnapped on the open sea says something about the values of our news media.

It got worse.

Not only was Marama Davidson eclipsed by this ridiculous toilet story, the ultra critical report of fight clubs in Mt Eden that SERCO tried to stop in the High Court was released. The shocking fact that Corrections knew about two earlier reports into fight clubs that were smothered was utterly missed by a news media still pursuing sex in toilets.

SERCO should not be running any private prisons in NZ, yet it runs our largest prison at Wiri. No one is going to be held accountable for this, SERCO won't lose their contract and the Government manage to escape any scrutiny.

All because our media chased a story about a rugby player having sex in a toilet.
