One up to Australia in indigenous basketball test
The Apunipima Australian Indigenous All Stars basketball team are one up in a three game trans-Tasman series after beating the National Maori team in Gisborne last night.
The team led by Australian National Basketball League veteran Tyson Demos won 87-82.
The head of Maori Basketball, Willy Taurima, says the Australians went out favourites, but the Maori team includes two recently retired Tall Blacks, nine NZ NBL current players, and eight former NZ Junior Tall Blacks.
The teams clash again in Te Awamutu tonight and Tauranga on Saturday.
