Maori Party strategy attack on whakapapa

Hauraki Waikato MP Nanaia Mahuta is questioning the tactics being employed by the Maori Party to try to unseat her.
New Maori Party president Tukoroirangi Morgan says he has a plan to win all the Maori seats, starting with the one he lost to Ms Mahuta in 1999.
Ms Mahuta says to make an impact he will need to announce some high quality candidates early.
She says efforts so far seem to be around trying to recruit her sister or a nephew to stand against her.
"Any party representing the values of Maori, and I'd say there are a number of Maori members across the political spectrum who say they represent the values that are Maori, would not use dividable tactics especially whakapapa to split and divide for a pure political purpose. That is not Maori," she says.
Nanaia Mahuta says she is not concerned by a speech by her cousin King Tuheitia supporting the Maori Party, because once Kingitanga supporters get into the polling booth they will vote for the person they think will do the best job.
