Kohanga Reo trustee Manuera Tohu dies

Tears are flowing for Taitokerua kaumatua Manuera Tohu of Ngati Kahu and Te Ihutai, who died on Sunday at his Dargaville home.
Mr Manuera held a range of roles, including being a trustee of Te Kohanga Reo National Trust and a kaumatua advisor for the New Zealand Police.
The former Ratana minister was awarded a Queen's Service Medal in 2003 for his community work, and in 2012 he received a Sir Kingi Ihaka Award for a lifetime contribution to the preservation of Maori culture.
New Zealand First education spokesperson Tracey Martin says he was a master orator and an expert authority on tikanga and whakapapa who made an important contribution to the revitalisation of the Maori language.
His tangi is at Kapehu Marae at Mititai, which he helped to build.
