Aotearoa shows waka ama power
Aotearoa has come out on top of the World Va'a Sprint Championships on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.
James Papali'i from the Manukau Outrigger Club says while arch-rivals Tahiti posted faster times in the heats, in the finals it was the New Zealand-based crews who dominated, taking gold in the 500 metre men's and women's races and the women's 1500 metre.
The junior teams were also strong, with the girls winning two golds and the boys taking silver.
The competition on Lake kawana now switches to club contests, with Manukau's Vaka Manu in contention.
