VC cash for Maori education researcher

Maori education research has been given a boost with a new scholarship from the Ngarimu VC and 28 Maori Battalion Scholarship Trust.
It's worth $15,000 a year for two years, and also includes a paid internship at the Ministry of Education.
Chair Hekia Parata says there are already a handful of Maori and Pakeha academics committed to the Maori education, but the board wants to grow the area.
"We want greater and specific insights to issues in Maori education, how we can better support the Maori medium pathways that are available in our education system, how we can encourage more of our best and brightest to become teachers and fluent in te reo and language, culture and identity," she says.
Applications for the scholarship are now open with the Ngarimu VC board.
