Writing tips sought for tamariki
Research on improving the writing skills of Maori, Pasifika and boys is one of six projects to be funded under the Teaching and Learning Research Initiative.
Education Minister Hekia Parata says the projects will benefits teachers and students for years to come.
The writing project will try to identify and spread effective teaching practice.
Lead researchers Judy Parr and Murray Gadd say despite the importance of writing achievement levels are low, particularly in the upper levels of primary school and amongst Maori, Pasifika and boys.
Other projects include looking at how teachers in schools serving primary schools in low socio-economic communities can teach for equity, designing new ways to model and report mathematical thinking, and one that looks at how teaching singing has helped a Christchurch school deal with the disruption of the earthquakes.
