The Raggamuffin talent quest is on, with promoters looking for unknown local acts who can get a chance for fame at the long running reggae and urban music festival.
Judge Brother D says it’s the same kaupapa that inspired him to start Dawn Raid records back in the 1990s, giving a voice to rangatahi.
He says there’s been some impressive contenders so far at the first sessions in Porirua and Palmerston North.
"Massive talent. Everybody starts from humble beginnings and if we don't give an opportunity to our rangatahi, give them a stage to perfrom on, they end up at their local pub and then disappear from there. The talent search is to give them an opportunity to jump on an international stage and perform with the likes of UB40 and Macy Gray and Eddie Grant, it's huge," Brother D says.
Raggamuffin will be held in Auckland next February, and Hinewehi Mohi’s Raukatauri Music Therapy Trust has been named its official charity.
