Young workers needed for E Tu union
If you’re still in a union, chances are you’re in E Tu.
That’s the new union created by the merger of the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union and the Service and Food Workers Union.
General secretary Bill Newson says a bigger union will be better able to fight for the interests of working people.
He says getting more Maori members is important to E Tu, as many of the young people going into jobs in sectors such as manufacturing and the trades are Maori.
"There are some great jobs still there in manufacturing, although technology is taking away some jobs and there is an aggressive anti-union thing trying to push down wages but on the other side of that coin there is a great opportunity for young Maori to get involved in trade training and good quality manufacturing jobs. If we can get them to join the union as well, we can really do some good work together," Mr Newson from E Tu.
