Next batch of Maori trade trainees sought

The AWF Maori cadetship programme is looking for 60 more cadets for its 2016 programme to be trained for jobs in the engineering and infrastructure industry.
Simon Bennett from AWF Madison, New Zealand’s largest recruitment organisation says 50 trainees will graduate next week at Hoani Waititi Marae in west Auckland.
The programme, Te Mana o Whakaaro, is a partnership with Te Puni Kokiri aimed at increasing the number of Maori certified in trades ranging from carpentry to food handling and civil construction.
Mr Bennett says demand for graduates continues to be high, not just because of skills shortages for the Canterbury rebuild but also big infrastructure projects in Auckland and Wellington.
