Ngati Wiwi for reo celebration
Te Taura Whiri I Te Reo Maori is giving France the last word in the lead up to Maori Language Week.
The final word of the week is Wiwi, French, and the commission is hosting a cultural exchange today to celebrate the use of the word and to reflect on language revitalisation.
It will meet with members of French speaking community and staff from the French Embassy at the Wharewaka on Wellington’s waterfront.
Commissioner Wayne Ngata says the word of the week campaign has been a huge success, with 50 kupu now more widely known.
It will be followed over the next year with a phrase of the week campaign.
