Quin Tikis top the charts
The perennial popularity of Maori show bands has been proven again with the Quin Tikis topping this week’s album charts.
It’s just over two weeks since the album containing their 1960s material hit the stores, and it has already been repressed twice.
Among the dozens of muciians who passed through its ranks in the 60s and early 70s were Rim D Paul, Eddie Low, Rufus Rehu, Sam Mataparae, and Keri Summers.
The Quins also featured in the only two Kiwi movies made during the 60s, ‘Runaway’ and ‘Don’t Let It Get You’.
The group travelled the world and did four tours of duty entertaining American and ANZAC forces in Vietnam where their main transportation between gigs was by plane or tank.
