Tuhoronuku negotiators named
Ngapuhi claims settlement body Tuhoronuku has appointed its first three negotiators.
They are former Ngapuhi Runanga chief executive Alison Thom, Joe Davis, who was part of the Hauraki Maori Trust Board’s negotiation team, and Hemi Toia, who is currently chief executive of Top of the South Island iwi Ngati Rarua.
Tuhoronuku chair Sonny Tau says they are all Ngapuhi leaders in their own right who have a wealth of experience in management, iwi development and working with Government and government agencies at the highest level.
Other negotiators may be brought on later.
He says the negotiators will start by talking with Ngapuhi hapu to establish their settlement aspirations.
Mr Tau says Tuhoronuku isn’t waiting for the Waitangi Tribunal to report on a claim challenging its mandate, and it has left the door open for those who have chosen to sit outside the whare at this time.
