Feed the kids bill quashed
Hone Harawira’s feed the kids bill is no more.
The bill, which was picked up by Greens co-leader Metiria Turei when the Mana leader lost his Taitokerau seat, finally came up for a first reading yesterday.
It was voted down by National and ACT, meaning it can’t advance to select committee where the issues it raises could be explored in more depth.
Ms Turei says Prime Minister John Key voted against children and showed how completely out of touch he is with the needs of New Zealand’s poorest kids.
She says every hungry school kid could be fed for a fraction of the cost of Northland’s bridge bribe.
