Election advantage tallied up

Maori Party MP Marama Fox believes a Winston Peters’ win in the Northland by-election will strengthen her party’s hand with the government.
With an upset win to the New Zealand First leader looking possible, she has been doing her maths.
"It will mean that they will need two of their partners to secure any votes in the house which will mean that we will have greater bargaining power to try to get some of changes sometimes in little bits of legislation. Sometimes it's about give and take," Ms Fox says.
But Winston Peters says Marama Fox is not thinking straight.
"Sorry Marama, but you haven't got the experience to make those stupid comments. They wll not have not more power, but she's not the only one saying it. A lot of European journalists are saying it, and they are omitting one little fact. We know we can't change the Government but we can certainly change the way they think. And if the ACT Party and the United Party and the Maori Party think they're going to come out of this exercise with us making all the sacrifice and them getting all the power, they've got to be dreaming," he says.
