Directory reveals Maori researchers

Maori expertise could be more accessible with the launch today of a new online directory.
Te Hononga Pukenga was put together by Nga Pae o te Maramatanga, the Maori Centre of Research Excellence.
Research director Dan Hikuroa says it provides information for whanau, hapu and iwi as well as government, industry and media on researchers' expertise, past projects, location and iwi.
He says many Maori researchers are embedded in communities with their research driven by the needs and opportunities of those whanau.
"Other communities aren't as well connected with researchers and we felt there was a real need for those communities with dreams, with aspirations or with issues that need resolving, who didn't have the luxury of knowing first hand those researchers, that they could go somewhere, that they could find the depth and breadth of researchers across New Zealand," Dr Hikuroa says.
Te Hononga Pukenga was launched this morning at the Tertiary Education Commission by the Minister for Maori Development, Te Ururoa Flavell.
