Waitangi events spread around

The Ministry for Culture and Heritage is backing 67 official community events around the country to mark the 175th anniversary of the Treaty of Waitangi next February 6.
Arts, Culture and Heritage Minister Maggie Barry says the Government wants to take a wider approach to marking the anniversary of the Treaty.
The Commemorating Waitangi Day Fund Panel will also fund commemoration events for other significant Treaty signings throughout the country.
Events for next Waitangi Day include the official commemoration in the Bay of Islands, to an event at Manukau in Auckland which last year attracted over 30,000 people, to a small gathering on the Chatham Islands.
The ministry has developed a new official Waitangi 175 logo depicting a kotuku in flight.
Ms Barry says that represents progress and looking ahead to the bicentenary of the signing in 2040.
