Producers picked for TVNZ outsourcing
The man behind glitzed up reality show The GC has been named the preferred applicant to take over Television New Zealand’s main Maori current affairs programme Marae.
Bailey Mackey’s Pango Aotearoa was one of four independent production companies named today as part of the broadcaster’s outsourcing of its Maori and Pacific programmes.
Waka Huia will come under Megan Douglas’s Scottie Productions, which has been responsible for a range of documentaries and series including The Prophets, Whanau Factor and Deane Waretini.
Pacific youth programme Fresh gets a refresh under Tiki Lounge led by Lisa Taouma, while Tagata Pasifika Ltd, a newly formed company involving a number of TVNZ staff currently working for the in-house Maori & Pacific Programming team, is the preferred applicant for Tagata Pasifika.
All four companies say they may take on existing TVNZ staff who wish to transfer their employment.
It’s expected final negotiations will be completed before Christmas.
