Boy racers swapped for whanau fleet
A 19-year-old Far North entrepreneur who sold his boy racer to buy a luxury fleet car has won the rangatahi section of Te Hiringa Tai Tokerau Maori Business Awards.
Awanui-based Hirikia Murray-Halkyard owns and runs Exec Transport Ltd. which provides VIP and corporate travel from Kaitaia, Kerikeri and Whangarei airports.
He buys prestige cars like Chryslers and Ford Falcons, operates them for a few months and then sells them on and replaces them with newer vehicles.
It's a whanau business, with two of his brothers working as drivers, his mother sending out the invoices and his father helping with vehicle maintenance
He says after three years business is booming and he has plans to expand throughout the North Island.
