Maori seat up for sale

New Zealand First leader Winston Peters says Mana’s dalliance with Kim Dotcom’s Internet Party could threaten the future of the Maori seats.
The parties are discussing an alliance so that votes for the internet mogul’s new party won’t go to waste, but could allow list MPs to enter parliament if Hone Harawira retains Te Tai Tokerau.
Mr Peters, who opposes Maori seats in principle despite his party making a clean sweep of them in 1996, says it’s a terrible idea.
"The Mana Party has put themselves into the position of being cuckolded by the Internet Party and I think it’s a shocking example of a party losing its way. How on earth can Maori MPs in a Maori seat say we need to keep the Maori seats because we are specially uniquely qualified to represent and speak for the Maori people,’ and in the next breath have this guy organizing their future," he says.
