Ahuwhenua finalists picked
Three Maori dairy farms have been chosen as finalists for this year’s Ahuwhenua Trophy for Maori Excellence in Farming.
Awards organiser Kingi Smiler says the three will be announced at a special function at Parliament next week February 19.
They will then be subjected to a second round of judging, including each of them staging a field day so members of the public and other Maori farmers can see the farms in action.
Mr Smiler says the exposure will highlight and realise the importance that Maori place on sustainable farming practices, and the importance of Maori farms to the New Zealand economy.
About 10 percent of the country’s milk comes from Maori farms.
