Hapu needs help with dump clean up

Kaitiaki of a small South Taranaki reserve are looking for help to clean up an historic dump.
The Ngati Tupaia hapu of Ngati Ruanui gained control of Turuturu Mokai only to find half an acre of it it had been used as a dumping ground for hospital and electrical waste, which could include asbestos.
Hapu secretary Aroha Houston says the hapu has no money for the cleanup and may seek help from the South Taranaki District Council.
Mayor Ross Dunlop says a formal agreement is needed before the council can step in.
The former council reserve is on the site of one of the oldest fortifications erected by Maori, and featured in the Taranaki wars of the 1860s.
