Reti seeking safe seat
High flying Maori doctor Shane Reti wants to swap his stethoscope for the politician’s suit.
The GP and dermatologist has put his name forward to stand for National in Whangarei.
Dr Reti is just back from a spell in the United States as international programme director for Harvard Medical School’s clinical informatics division.
He previously served as a Northland District Health Board director, and received a QSM in 2006 for services to medical research, health and Maori education.
There is stiff competition to replace retiring MP Phil Heatley in the safe seat.
Whangarei-born National list MP and former diplomat Paul Foster-Bell also wants the job, as does businessman Adam Isa.
