Extremist choice for govt partner
Greens co-leader Metiria Turei says John Key’s view of future coalition partners shows how extreme the National Party is.
Mr Key has identified a post-election squad of the Maori Party, ACT, United Future, the Conservative Party, and in a change from the past two elections, New Zealand First.
But he ruled out working with the Greens and Mana, saying they had a far left agenda.
Ms Turei says National seems to prefer far right extremists like the Conservative's Colin Craig.
"He has actually been working with us for the last five years on home insulation and the cycleway and cleaning up toxic sites and a whole lot of other things so John is having to make some political decisions about who he will be friends with and he’ll be friends with extremists," she says.
Metiria Turei yesterday announced the Greens Schools at the Heart education policy, a $90 million a year package for low decile schools, including free after school care and holiday programmes, free lunches, and school nurses.
