Rotorua has picked up the right to run the first National Maori Basketball Tournament.
Upwards of 1000 players, officials and supporters are expected at the Energy Events Centre from 6 to 8 February next year.
Rotorua District Council events & venues manager, Joelene Elliott, says 60 teams have already registered, and there could be as many as 100 taking part.
Rotorua Basketball hopes the tournament could become an annual event.
