Porse eyes South Auckland putea
Watch out kohanga reo, PORSE is coming through.
The in-home early childhood education provider wants to reach more Maori and Pacific Island children in South Auckland, where the Government is putting in extra funding to reach a 98 percent participation target.
Vision strategist Kerry Henderson says areas like Papakura and Takanini have some of the highest non-participation rates in early childhood education in the country.
She says the Porse model of in home education can help overcome barriers of transport and communication and give children a good start.
"There’s a lot of research out there that shows that brain development and secure attachment all come down to the quality of relationships and a lot of those relationships happen in the home and in the community so we like to use the home and use the community as our learning ground, offering that care and education and support through trained teachers and linking in with Te Whariki which is the Government’s ECE curriculum," Ms Henderson says.
Because Porse is a registered private training establishment, it can offer NZQA approved courses so parents can train in early childhood education.
