Two traditional voyaging canoes are on their way back from French Polynesia.
Since arriving in Moorea at the end of January from Rapa Nui Easter Island, Te Aurere has undergone major repairs.
The newer double-hulled waka, Ngahiraka Mai Tawhiti, needed only minor repairs.
The waka left for Rarotonga on Saturday with 11 Maori, two Rapanui sailors and seven Tahitian Maohi on board.
Te Aurere captain Jack Thatcher says the main task during the 600 kilometre week-long leg will be to teach the island crew as much as possible about voyaging and navigation.
