King takes hand in regatta preparation

Major work is being done at Tūrangawareware Mārae to prepare for the 118th annual regatta.
King Tuheitia are among those operating diggers to clean up debris from an old rubbish dump on the river bank below the mārae, exposed by low water levels in the Waikato River.
At least seven waka taua will participate in Saturday’s parade in front of the mārae, including one from Te Atiawa ki Waiwhetu.
A support group of 60 tribal members and kai hoe from Lower Hutt is expected.
Other activities include a dugout and waka ama racing, kapa haka and live bands.
