Haka chant to rev up Warriors’ crowd
Warrior’s fans will soon get the chance to help their team with a haka.
New team co-owner Sir Owen Glenn has asked board member and kapa haka expert Donna Grant and her husband Anaru to come up with a team haka and a chant.
Ms Grant says rather than an All Black-style haka for the team to perform before the game, they are looking for something to up the energy when it's needed.
“The crowd actually gets involved with a haka catch cry that it can become part of the pre-match entertainment but also during the match when the boys need an up lifting force. They can have a culture force behind them. When the catch cry goes out ‘Ko mātou ngā toa e ngunguru nei’, then the whole crowd can respond, whether you’re watching it live or watching it on TV, you can say ‘au, au, aue ha!’,” she says.
