Te Wānanga ō Aotearoa Chief Executive Bentham Ohia is resisting a board effort to replace him and has reapplied for his job.
The largest Māori tertiary institution had advertised for a replacement for Mr Ohia, who took the role in 2005 after wānanga founder Rongo Wetere was forced out by Labour Education Minister Trevor Mallard.
Students and staff petitioned Mr Ohia to reapply, and there were demonstrations in support of him at several campuses.
